Viral video clips appeared to show Jones making an obscene gesture at Jets fans, but Jones maintains he was actually signaling approval to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.

“It was unfortunate. That was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a large group of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”

Jones additionally clarified that the signal was completely accidental, happening amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I just showed the incorrect finger,” he remarked. “It was accidentally performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. But it got corrected rapidly.”

This is not the first time an league proprietor has been fined for misconduct. Recent cases include:

• Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at fans in January 2024.
